September 21: A Weekend to Bend the Course of History

Iran joins the mass march for climate change awareness taking place in many countries.

(Iran's Environment News Agency) - On the weekend prior to a climate change summit UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is hosting for political leaders in New York City on September 23rd, a mass march will take place New York City and many other major cities and countries in the world.
The march will begin at the Pardisan Park—the Iranian Department of Environment (DOE). Mohammed Darvish, Director General of Education and Public Participation of DOE told “Everyone can take part in this event on September 21.”
Darvish added, “People want to call for action against using fossil fuels and to use renewable fuels instead. So far environment friends from 73 countries—including Iran—have joined this event. Iran is a victim of climate change and global warming, facing drought at the moment. This predicament is the result of the activities of industrial counties. The previous Iranian governments did not pay the necessary attention to the environment, but one of the most important plans of the government is to preserve and protect the environment. In the five-year plan of development for the country, the government is bound to produce 5 thousand MW electricity using renewable energies. The current government follows the demands of the friends to the environment.”
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce global warming pollution.
The march calls for people to stand up in different communities, to organize, to build power, to confront the power of fossil fuels, and to shift power to a just, safe, peaceful world. The demand is for Action, Not Words: take the action necessary to create a world with an economy that works for people and the planet—a world safe from the ravages of climate change. The march will take place in many cities including London, Berlin, Bogota, Istanbul, Paris, Rio, Delhi, Melbourne, Johannesburg, Lagos, Dubai, New York, and a lot of countries including United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Russia, France, Senegal, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Nigeria, Germany, Australia, Canada, Denmark and United Kingdom.
